Formerly British Rail EM2 (later Class 77) 27003 in 1954, it was built for service on the Woodhead trans-Pennine route until the Class 77s were withdrawn in September 1968. All the Class 77s were bought by Nederlandse Spoorwegen in 1969, reclassified as NS Class 1500 and numbered 1501 - 1506. After modifications they were used on the continent until withdrawal in 1985. Three locos escaped the scrapman; 1502 and 1505 returned to the UK and 1501 was sold to a group of NS personnel.
